Hello all devs out there,

Is anyone else building or have built onto the GetClicky API?

I just last night began designing my own based in CakePHP for an admin control panel. I wanted to be able to have an at-a-glance look at web traffic from the control panel.

Im hoping someone out there can point me in the right direction, I would really like to include the bar graph that is used to show past and present comparisons with mulitple date ranges.

Anyone? Anyone?

Thanks!

Sites Drop-Down Doesn't Fit On Screen

I had a nice long post written and mentioned to use a SELECT element (with the brackets) and the forum software rejected it. Boo. So this one will be shorter.

I've got about 115 sites in Clicky, which causes the sites drop-down to show 7 columns worth of sites. Problem is, with my laptop resolution maxed at 1280X800, the sites drop-down is so wide that the first column is off the screen. I have to zoom out first before selecting a site in that column, which is a bit of a PITA.

So, please use either a plain old SELECT element for this, or if it's easier, set the maximum columns in the drop-down to 5. At 5 columns, the width of the drop-down will be about as wide as the page, so it'll be guaranteed to fit. Then just allow the drop-down area to be as tall as needed, and make sure that the browser's scrollbar can be used to scroll the drop-down if it's higher than the page (which mine probably would be).

Many Thanks.

I keep getting DNS resolution failures for static.getclicky.com. I thought it might just be me but http://mydnscheck.com/static.getclicky.com reveals the same issues with DNS resolution. I figure this might be related to your CDN issues. Anyway, this is causing much headaches. I'm a new user and haven't committed to becoming a paid user yet because of this issue. I'd much prefer to use your service over google analytics.

Can you go ahead and add/alias http://static.getclicky.com/js as http://static.getclicky.com/track.js and start using that in examples and in the preferences? Sure there will still be many users using the old code but if you want to get others off of http://static.getclicky.com/js you have to start somewhere.

For now I'm locally caching http://static.getclicky.com/js in the case that I can't load it remotely, but that defeats the purpose of a CDN and there's the chance that I won't be in sync with your code. It would be nice if you versioned the code for this reason, but I know that has its own set of headaches when you want to push out an update.

As you register a new site you see the following link.

--> "Click here to check if we have a plugin for your platform (so you won't need to install the tracking code manually)." <--

I read that to mean that it was then not necessary to install the tracking code manually.

So I didn't. And, surprise, surprise, the Chrome App did not work.

May I suggest that the words may need a tweak?

It would be a nice option to add/upload custom icons for goal management. I have some scenarios where the standard icons really do not match what the goal is trying to measure.

Even if it was a field on the goal management page to include the url of a self hosted custom icon, that would make a world of difference.

My portfolio site (http://blackantmedia.com) is just a single page with lots of dynamic UI elements. Currently in Clicky, I can only see when a user clicks an outbound link. I'd like to find out what the best method is for adding some basic link-click logging so that I can see when a user clicks a particular project in my portfolio, navigates though the screenshots, etc.

Thanks in advance!

I have just exported GetClicky visits_lists for the last month and compared the number of visitors with those in my web server log. I found that 320 distinct IP's (or 307 visitors with distinct hostname, whois combinations) in my web server logs were not in the GetClicky visits_lists. This actually is a very high percentage because there were only 923 distinct IP's in the GetClicky visits_lists.

Why were visits from the 320 IP's not recorded by GetClicky? It would appear that these were not robots because all these visitors had been referred to my site through entering a search phrase. These search phrases were evident in the referrer field.

Could these missing visitors be accounted for by one of the 4 following reasons. 1. They were using a tracking blocker or other "privacy" software. 2. Their firewall blocked your tracking servers. 3. They had disabled Javascript. 4. They had a slow connection and didn't have time to download and execute your tracking code before moving on.

Am I missing something here?

PS. I do like your product by the way and I use it a lot. However if I have not overlooked anything significant here, I would like to have a better insight into the potential for GetClicky to miss real human visitors.

I'd like to be able to see how many total "hits" a subdomain receives...

The Content tab gives the ability to Filter Results. If I choose the name of the subdomain and filter by it I have an easy way to see hits by individual page in that subdomain.. but no aggregate. If I download a csv I can see results for up to 2000 pages in that subdomain and I can sum those up offline.. but I still can't get a true aggregate number of hits.

Maybe you can add the ability to download more than 2000 pages, say 3000 or 4000 if possible, or small dream here, you could run a process in the background and email me when the download is ready so I don't have sit and watch the browser spin while your servers think.

Or, dreaming big here, you could add a custom reporting capability for customers like me to slice and dice any which way. Hint: I would pay more for this.

It would even just be cool to see what my projected number of visitors for the day is, based on the past 6 hours or so.

Maybe you could even do graphs and put a trend line in, to show where you are going in the future.

All I can see is the percentage (but I don't know what that percentage means either, is it vs. yesterday?), but I can't see the details. Can this chart be added to the top of the "today" view?

Especially in the mobile context, I don't necessarily need all the deep analytics. What I'm interested in is a window into how I'm doing today. The mobile site really could use a "what's happening now" type dashboard, imho. Thanks!

Over the last few months I have noticed a handful of people on googl chrome visiting my website (justindocanto.com), as well as a few clients sites, multiples times a day for under 10 seconds at a time.

at first, i thought.. oh, their just bounced users! nbd!

turns out some of them are not just bounced users. they're actually google chrome's screen-shotting functionality for the "top sites" section you see when you open a new window or tab.

i figured this out when 2 people i was able to get in touch with (my grandma and somebody at media temple) visited my site at the same time, over 15 times in 1 hour!

after asking some questions, that's when i realized google chrome is screen shotting my website(s) for their "top sites" section (the one that displays thumbnails of your top sites) when you open the browser or open a new tab.... if you have it enabled. this is awesome and all... but it's screwing up my statistics and ratios!

I'm familiar with user-agent strings... but i dont have the time atm to look up if the screenshot functionality of google chrome has a slightly modified user-agent that you guys might be able to detect this and not display the hit in get clicky.

i would think that this kind of traffic would fit into the same category of search bots panning through your site, that you already ignore... and this should be ignored too.

let me know if you guys implement this or not.

thanks!

Clicky has grown huge since the time I heard about it - I was one of the first accounts back in the day and have had a few and cannot believe that is the feature your achieving you must be using heavy memcache and load balancers on slave and master mySQL dedicated servers.

I am using the Clicky API to download the visitors-list and I noticed that for the CSV output, the UID field is missing (so is first_visit and referrer_type), whereas it comes with the other formats (PHP, JSON, XML).

Is this something that can be changed, or do I need to use the other formats if I want to have this information?

Thank you for this great service.

Is there any way to export the list of visitors that includes the filters I have added?

Why is this option not available? It should not be more difficult to filter by C class than by D class.

Hi folks,

I'm testing Clicky for some time now (and I'm really into it ^^) and wondering which Database or geolocationservice your are using to map an IP to a country and how accurate this mapping is?

I found a thread where you mentioned a level of precision within the US [1].
Because of the fact that I'm a user who lives in europe, and providing a website for international purpose, I would like to know how accurate the results are especially for this region and maybe worldwide?

Well here is another one of these: http://imgur.com/t3Ghw

When I updated my billing information, a red-coded message informed me of a successful transaction which was... not good :)

Thanks for fixing.

I'm trying to pull the google rankings for searches that happened today.

I'm using this address: (with my login)
http://api.getclicky.com/api/stats/4?site_id=32020&sitekey=2e05fe2778b6&type=searches-rankings

I have tried changing the limit to all and nothing happens. I even tried changing it to 1 and the same results came back. The problem is I have searches with high traffic but the google ranking is like 7 but it doesn't show on the list. Only the top google rankings of 1 seem to be showing. So, I either need to pull more searches or enter a search phrase in the api. I have tried both with no luck.

For example,

http://api.getclicky.com/api/stats/4?site_id=32020&sitekey=2e05fe2778b6&type=searches-rankings&limit=all

OR

http://api.getclicky.com/api/stats/4?site_id=32020&sitekey=2e05fe2778b6&type=searches-rankings&search='online search phrase'

But both don't work.

Any ideas?

Hi,
Great job with the recent adds like google rank (and way to keep the old stuff as well). It seems when I look at the dashboard on my iPad and I run the visitors, Uniques, actions, etc charts weekly and monthly it cuts the front of the numbers off. I can sometimes make out the number in the 100,000th place but that's as far as it goes. I am talking an the vertical part of the legend so I can't see the numbers for millions and ten millions. I guess I need to see if it's the same on the computer but the days a lot of times meetings are lunch ( or is it Lucy is a meeting, something like that) but it's just way easier to bring the 3G iPad than a laptop so getting the numbers in there would be nice.

Thanks,

Appending query strings to media breaks download stats. Any Solutions?

I've had to get more aggressive with my site's caching and cdn strategies recently (a good problem to have) and part of that is implementing better browser caching.

In most cases I can set a far future expires header on media because once I've uploaded a jpeg or png or whatever, with a few exceptions it's not going to change for the foreseeable future.

However, the exceptions are always going to exist, and the way popular wp caching plugin W3 Total Cache gets around that is to append a query string to the end of object names in case the object does need to be changed.

So the link to a jpeg might look like:
http://www.mysite.com/thispicture.jpg?somequerystring

This seems to break download stats. Is there any way this could be fixed?

Thank you,
Mark Seifert
